SpaceTrek (Morehead): SpaceTrek is a unique science camp offered at Morehead State University's state-of-the-art Space Science Center housing a Satellite Development Laboratory, Space Tracking Antennas, Electronic Laboratories, and a digital Star Theater for planetarium and LASER shows. This one week educational experience is designed to expose incoming sophomore, junior, and senior high school girls to space science and engineering concepts in fun and exciting ways.
Dream Discovery Camps (Inez): The Dream Discovery Center is a STEAM education facility used by students in the Appalachian region to heighten the prevalence of STEAM disciplines within the region. There are six camps available for middle and high school students interested in robotics, aeronautics, and video editing.
North Central Kentucky:
Classroom Antics Tech Camps (Florence): Summer Tech Camps will be offered in video game design, LEGO robotics, Minecraft, stop-motion animation, and Scratch computer programming for students in middle school. The abbreviated week-long summer camps will run for 3 hours each day and cost $195 each.
The Studio at Sullivan College of Technology and Design (Louisville): Drone missions, robot repairs, web coding, ad campaign launches, and trash-to-treasure design contests are all in a day's work at the Studio, where techies and creatives come together to push the boundaries of innovation and bring ideas to life using the latest technology. Choose the track that interests you most and prepare for a weeklong whirlwind of creating collaborating, coding, drafting, automating, inventing, branding, droning, and much more. Open to students entering their junior year through 2017 high school graduates.
Tech Scientific Summer Camps (Louisville): Tech Scientific is the newest part of Club SciKidz Kentucky, offering programs for grades 6-8 that focus on science, technology, and engineering. The offerings are not only exciting and fun, they also provide campers with an opportunity to explore future career paths.
School's Out Science Camps at KY Science Center (Louisville): The Kentucky Science Center offers weeklong camps for middle and high schoolers throughout the summer. Check out programs such as Amusement Park Physics, Project Engineers, Maker Camp, Think Tank Camp, Science Institute, and more!
STEM Camps at Sacret Heart Academy (Louisville): Led by SHA's STEM Coordinators and talented high school students, girls entering grades 6-8 can attend morning sessions (Emerging Technology and Engineering), afternoon sessions (Multimedia and Graphic Design), or both, depending on their interests. Students will learn to collaborate, communicate, and be creative, strengthening critical thinking skills through a weeklong project-based curriculum. At the end of the week, campers will present their final projects to their peers and receive a SHA STEM Camp certificate and t-shirt.
See Blue STEM Camp at UK (Lexington): Camp experiences include entomology, engineering design, career exploration, chemistry, biology, robotics, and much more. The camp is open to incoming 5-8th graders and offered twice in June.
Robotics Camp at UK (Lexington): The LEGO Robotics Camp will extend the curriuculum of the See Blue STEM Camp to provide enhanced instruction in building and programming robots. Students will use sensors and coding to complete challenges and compete against their peers. Students should have a basic understanding of LEGO robotics or VEX robots to enroll.
NKU CINSAM STEM Camps (Newport): The Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics hosts a variety of camps each summer for students. The camps are hosted by NKU faculty and staff on topics in science, technology, engineering, and math.
J.B. Speed School of Engineering Summer Camps (Louisville): A variety of middle and high school camps are offered through UofL's engineering school. Students interested in coding and programming, drones, robotics, and app development should consider applying. Also offered is the Brown-Forman INSPIRE summer enrichment program, geared toward students who are typically under-represented in engineering.
PAEMS (Georgetown): The Georgetown College Pre-College Academic Experience in Math and Science is a 13-da residential program that provides academically-motivated high school students with educational opportunities that are not normally available in secondary schools. PAEMS is designed for students preparing to enter 10-12 grade who have an exceptional interest in math and the natural sciences.
Week of Code (Lexington): This camp for middle and high school students introduces the fundamentals of coding. Students will create websites, hardware projects, and video games all while having fun!
Space Engineering Camp (Louisville): Held at Gheens Science Hall & Raunch Planetarium, there are camps offered for students entering 5-6 grade and 7-9 grade. Curiosity and a love of space propel campers through this week-long exploration of our relationship with the universe. Kids use technology to probe and experiment while creating science projects that fuel their desire to learn.
Summer Apprenticeship Program at Kentucky State University (Frankfort): The program is designed to prepare students for college life while exposing them to different career opportunities in STEM fields. This is a three-week residential program offered to rising juniors and seniors in high school.
TSI Summer STEM Institute (Crestview Hills): High school freshmen-juniors interested in exploring STEM disciplines should look into Thomas More's Summer Institute. For five days and five nights in July, campers will live at the Field Station, work alongside college professors and participate in hands-on projects out in the field, on the Ohio River, at the Biology Field Station, at the Observatory, and in the classrooms and science labs at Thomas More.
Summer Kid's College @ ECTC (Elizabethtown): Geared toward middle schoolers, Kid's College offers courses such as Beginning Robotics, 3D Printing, Plastics, and Mad Scientist & Strange Matter. Courses are week-long and offered both in June and July.
South Central Kentucky:
VAMPY (Bowling Green): Students currently in grades seven through ten qualify for the Summer Program for Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth (VAMPY) by taking the ACT or SAT and scoring at or above the average for college-bound seniors. In this three-week residential program, students spend six hours a day in a challenging, academic environment. Learning at VAMPY is conducted in a fast-paced, challenging format. Teachers incorporate a variety of projects, field trips, and lectures into their curriculum.
SCATS (Bowling Green): The Summer Camp for Academically Talented Students (SCATS) is a two-week camp that provides a wide range of classes for academically talented students in grades six through eight. Students take four courses from a wide array of choices. SCATS provides a diverse curriculum and a wide range of enrichment experiences for about 200 middle school students every summer, and offers both residential and nonresidential options.
Space Quest at Challenger Learning Center (Paducah): Camps are available at the Challenger Learning Center for students of various ages. Students will have the opportunity to explore science and space in a whole new way at these one to three day camps.
STEAM Summer Camps at WKCTC (Paducah): Camps take place in June and July 2017 at various locations on WKCTC's campus. Students interested in robotics, CAD, 3D printing, and coding will find experiences that will enhance their learning. (Specific information can be found on pages 16-18 of the Community Education catalog)
Aviation Camps (Lexington, Bowling Green, Pikeville, Louisville, Hazard): Campers aged 10-16 will learn about aeronautics, navigation, NASA, space, flight simulation, aircraft design, and careers in aviation.
