Describe the Activity: 

Each year, since 2005, girls from all over Kentucky have visited the University of Kentucky College of Engineering for a one day event to explore the fun behind STEM. GEMS is a collaboration between the University of Kentucky and the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council. GEMS is not only an opportunity for girls to gain hands on experience from local STEM related experts in their field, most workshops are facilitated by women mentors. Come discover why GEMS is such a ‘joule!’ GEMS is a chance to teach girls about:
• Careers in science
• The Scientific Method
• Science in daily life
• How much math and science are connected

Time Details: 

The event takes place Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 8:30am – 3:00pm. Registration deadline is Friday, October 20, 2017.

Cost Details: 

Girl Scouts: $10
Non-Girl Scouts: $15

People Details: 

Girls do not have to be Girl Scouts to attend the event. Girls can register individually or with a troop.

Prize Details: 

Girls who attend will receive a swag bag and will have opportunities to win prizes throughout the day.

Outcome of the Activity: 
Students will explore STEM through hands-on experiences and activities during the workshops.
