Engineers Week, developed by Discover Engineering, is a time to:
- Celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world
- Increase public dialogue about the need for engineers
- Bring engineering to life for kids, educators, and parents
KVEC students in grades 6-12 will be given a broader challenge (Transportation, infrastructure, energy, or water) from which they will narrow to determine a problem they wish to solve. Each team has limit of $50 for materials (limit of $200/school).
KVEC area schools include those in the following districts: Breathitt, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe along with independent districts in Hazard (Perry County), Jackson (Breathitt County), Jenkins (Letcher County), Middlesboro (Bell County), Pikeville (Pike County), and Paintsville (Johnson County).
Determined by team
The challenge starts in January. Solutions will be presented Feb. 20-23rd, with winners announced Feb. 24th.
Schools can spend $50 per team on materials (with a limit of $200 per school)
Students will participate in the challenge by working with teams at their school to solve the problem they identified.
Winning teams with the most innovative solutions will receive a prize.
One submission per team. School must be in KVEC area.
Outcome of the Activity:
Students will learn more about engineers and engineering through the challenge.
