For the launch of this year’s competition, MakerMinded is partnering with local companies to hold events throughout the first few months of school. These events are designed to spread the word about the new program and to get schools and industry partners connected and off to a good start for the current school year.

#KYisMFG – 2017 Student Video Contest

Create a 30 second – 3 minute video about why manufacturing in Kentucky is so awesome! Work with your classmates & teacher, get a hold of a local manufacturer, and have fun with it!

The judges (members of the KY FAME Executive Committee) will be looking for the following in your video:

Research! Reflect! Retell!; An Advanced Manufacturing Company Report

In this activity, students will gain knowledge on modern day advanced manufacturing by researching an advanced manufacturing company. Students will answer the following questions provided below in essay form.

How to Participate:

VEX Robotics Competition

In the VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held year-round at the regional, state, and national levels and culminate at the VEX Robotics World Championship each April!

Tour the DOE Manufacturing Demonstration Facility

The Department of Energy’s first Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, established at ORNL, helps industry adopt new manufacturing technologies to reduce life-cycle energy and greenhouse gas emissions, lower production cost, and create new products and opportunities for high-paying jobs.

DENSO Tour (Maryville, Tennessee)

View advanced manufacturing up close by touring Denso, one of the world’s largest producers of car parts. Established in 1988, the Maryville company features four manufacturing plants producing starters, alternators, instrument clusters, electronics (includes engine, safety, and device products), and body electronics (focus on remote keyless entry, auto air conditioning control units, tire pressure monitoring systems and body control modules).

Design Team Tour

Design Team provides tours of their manufacturing facility where visitors can watch how our talented employees use cutting edge technology, machinery and skill to create signage and branding for customers nationwide. Visitors will be allowed to apply for positions, ask questions and understand how Design Team has become one of the leaders in the sign industry. Dress should be casual, no open-toed shoes and safety glasses will be provided, along with refreshments.
